Philadelphia – Harrisburg railway line

The Philadelphia – Harrisburg railway ( English Philadelphia to Harrisburg Main Line ) is located in the US state of Pennsylvania and connects the city of Philadelphia with the capital of the state, Harrisburg . It branches off in Philadelphia north of 30th Street Station from the Northeast Corridor and runs through Ardmore , Thorndale , Parkesburg and Lancaster to Harrisburg. There is a connection to the Pittsburgh – Harrisburg railway line . The line was once part of the Pennsylvania Railroad network .

As part of the Keystone Corridor, the 168 km long route is partially expanded to four tracks and electrified throughout. It is owned by the National Railroad Passenger Corporation and is operated by Amtrak in long-distance traffic. SEPTA's regional trains only run on the eastern section up to and including Thorndale. Freight traffic is handled by the Harrisburg Line of the Norfolk Southern Railway .
