The railway line Saint Stephen Milltown Junction is a railway line in Maine ( United States ) and in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . It is about eight kilometers long. The standard gauge line is operated by the New Brunswick Southern Railway in freight traffic.
First, the St. Stephen and Milltown Railway built the seven-kilometer section from Saint Stephen to Milltown (New Brunswick) , which opened around 1896. From 1897 the operations management of the Canadian Pacific Railway was incumbent . After the Maine Central Railroad took over operations on the Calais – Princeton line in 1911 , they wanted to connect to the Canadian rail network. A connection to Milltown offered itself, as only about one kilometer had to be built including a bridge over the St. Croix River . There was no passenger traffic on the railway line.
In 1995, the New Brunswick Southern Railway took over operations on the line after the Canadian Pacific had ceased operations.
