Baja California desert

The Baja California desert is a desert region on the Mexican peninsula of Baja California . It forms a sub-region of the Sonoran Desert , which extends over northwest Mexico as well as parts of the US states of California and Arizona .

The desert has an area of ​​approx. 30,000 km². The desert climate is dry and subtropical . It is bounded to the west by the Pacific Ocean and to the east by the Peninsular Ranges , a mountain range that extends the full length of the Baja California peninsula and extends a good 100 km across the border of the United States. Their fauna includes more than 500 rare animal species, some of which are endemic . There are also more than 500 plant species , of which, for example, the cactus Stenocereus eruca is endemic.
