The small town of Bajo Boquete is located in the Chiriquí province in the Boquete district of the Central American state of Panama and is often referred to simply as Boquete . It is 40 km from Davíd and 480 km from the capital . The city has around 6,200 inhabitants (2006 calculation) .

Culture and economy

Every year in January or February the Feria de las Flores y del Cafe takes place in Bajo Boquete , which also attracts many tourists. In April the orchids are celebrated with the Festival de las Orquidias . Bajo Boquete is especially famous for the coffee, the flowers (orchids, roses, chrysanthemums etc.) and strawberries, which are grown in the mild mountain climate (approx. 1200 m). The coffee beans are said to be the best in the country. Other important crops are onions, potatoes, carrots, lettuce and beetroot .

tourism

Bajo Boquete is one of the most famous tourist cities in Panama. The average annual temperature is 20 ° and makes for a very pleasant climate, almost every day in the early evening there is a little rain which is accompanied by a light breeze and has even been named in its regularity: Bajareque (fine drizzle). Since the climate is pleasant and the atmosphere is slightly sleepy, Bajo Boquete is now increasingly being chosen as a retirement home by European and US emigrants.

Numerous accommodations and restaurants offer the possibility to stay longer there. A hiking trail leads past many coffee fields and farms and shows the hard working and living conditions of the (almost always Indian) families and workers.
