Bajo sexto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bajo Sexto is a Mexican twelve-string bass guitar that is mainly used in Mexican folklore and Tex-Mex music.

The Bajo Sexto is built like a guitar. The tuning in fourths is about an octave lower: F, C, G, D, A, E - from the highest to the lowest string. The choirs have the same octave spacing as a twelve-string guitar. In addition to the acoustic form, there are also flatter instruments with electrical amplification.

A trio of accordion , bajo sexto and vocals forms the classic form of conjunto music in southern Texas and Mexico . Occasionally the bajo sexto is also used in rock music, usually together with the accordion.
