Leonardo "Flaco" Jiménez (born March 11, 1939 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American Tex-Mex musician and accordionist of Mexican descent. He is probably the best known accordionist in Tex-Mex.

His father Don Santiago Jiménez Sr. (1913–1984) was - also on the accordion - one of the pioneers of conjunto music. Jiménez performed with his father at the age of seven. At 15 he made his first recordings.

From the 1970s, Jiménez became known to a larger rock audience after Doug Sahm hired him for his album Doug Sahm & Band (1973) and he played on Ry COder's masterpiece Chicken Skin Music (1976) and took him on his Chicken Skin Revue tour had accompanied. As a sought-after studio accordionist, he has since played on over 100 records, including from Peter Rowan , Santana , Dwight Yoakam , The Mavericks , the Rolling Stones . In the 1990s, Jiménez was a member of the supergroups Texas Tornados and Los Super Seven .

On his later albums, Jiménez repeatedly mixed traditional polkas , rancheras and boleros with country and rock 'n' roll influences in order to appeal to a larger audience under his own name. Especially his album Partners (1992), recorded with the support of Cooder, Yoakam, Los Lobos and Emmylou Harris , among others , became known worldwide.

In 1986 Jiménez was awarded the Grammy in the category Best Mexican-American Performance for the reworking of his father's song Ay Te Dejo En San Antonio . Further Grammys followed for the albums Flaco Jiménez (1995) and Said And Done (1999) and as a member of the Tex-Mex supergroups Texas Tornados (1991) and Los Super Seven (1998).

Jiménez's younger brother Santiago Jiménez jr. (* 1944) is a well-known accordionist of the genre and has released numerous records. In contrast to Flaco, Santiago jr. but the traditional style of the father.
