Melchiorre Chiesa
Melchior Chiesa (* 1740 ; † 1799 ) was an Italian composer and musician .
Life
Leopold Mozart mentions Chiesa in a letter; In 1770 he took part in several performances of his son Wolfgang Amadeus' opera Mitridate at La Scala in Milan as a harpsichordist .
Chiesa is recorded as Kapellmeister at the Milanese churches of San Lorenzo Maggiore alle Colonne and Sant Eustorgio in 1775 and as a harpsichordist at La Scala until 1783.
A large inventory of church and instrumental music composed by him can be found in the archives of various libraries.
He has been rediscovered in today's concert life because two sonatas for Salterio (Italian Baroque dulcimer ) with basso continuo have been handed down, which have contributed significantly to the development of baroque instrumental music on the modern dulcimer .
