Bakary Jammeh

Bakary K. Jammeh (* 20th century ) is a Gambian economist . He's Central Bank - Governor in the West African country Gambia .

Life

Jammeh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Econometrics from Istanbul University , Turkey, and a Master of Science degree in Finance and Econometrics from Queen Mary University of London , UK. He has attended twenty different specialist courses in various fields such as macroeconomics, monetary policy and financial sector policy at various institutions such as the IMF Institute, the Deutsche Bundesbank, the Study Center of the Swiss National Bank and the Bank of Ghana.

He started working as an economist in October 2002 at the Central Bank of Gambia. By October 2010, he had become the deputy director of the Department of Economic Research, then he was appointed deputy director of the Central Bank. He held this office until August 2014. From August 2014 to August 2015, he worked as a special representative in the Africa department in Washington DC for the International Monetary Fund (IMF). During his time at the IMF he had focused on the Seychelles economy .

In May 2017, Bakary Jammeh, succeeding Amadou Colley , was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Gambia by Adama Barrow . At the same time, three other senior bank officials installed under former President Yahya Jammeh were removed from office. It was Colley's two deputies and the bank's finance director. Jammeh, the new governor, was previously the research economist and assistant director of the central bank.
