Construction of the Bakatsiraba Dam began in the summer of 2007 and was completed in 2008. For the geotechnical supervision and oversight, the company was LEGENI SA from Niamey responsible. It was built as part of an aid project financed by the African Development Bank for agricultural development in the Zinder region. The aid project lasted from January 2003 to June 2009 and cost a total of 6.4 billion CFA francs . In the course of the project, other dams were realized: the Bani Walki dam , the Bargouma dam , the Goumda Tambari dam , the Kassama dam and the Toumbala dam . Livestock areas have been marked around the Bakatsiraba Dam. The arable land near the dam, which is mainly used for growing pumpkins and tomatoes, grew from 1.6 hectares in 2008 to 10.78 hectares in 2009.
