from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baket (I.) was a local prince in Egypt during the 11th Dynasty. His main title was Great Head of the Saber Antelope Gau . He was thus Gaufürst in this province. Baket is best known from his grave in Beni Hasan (No. 29). It is a rock grave with a painted cult chapel carved into the rock. Here Baket is shown with his family. His wife's name was Thotqai, his son's name was also Baket, and he succeeded him in the office of Gaufürsten. The chronological classification of Baket I. is controversial in research. It was initially placed in the First Intermediate Period . Recent research favors dating to the 11th dynasty (around 2020 BC).
