Bako Sahakjan

Bako Sahakjan ( Armenian Բակո Սահակյան ; born August 30, 1960 in Stepanakert , Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region , Azerbaijani SSR ) is an Armenian politician in the internationally unrecognized Artsakh Republic . He has succeeded Arkadi Ghukassjan as President of the Artsakh Republic since 2007 .

After completing his military service in the Red Army , Bako Sahakjan initially worked in a factory in Stepanakert. In 1999 he entered politics as Minister of the Interior. In Nagorno-Karabakh's presidential elections in July 2007, he received more than 80% of the vote. After his election, Sahakjan declared that he wanted to lead Nagorno-Karabakh to full independence from Azerbaijan .

Bako Sahakjan is married and has two children.
