Aburizal Bakrie (born November 15, 1946 in Jakarta ) is an Indonesian businessman and politician .

Life

His father was the entrepreneur Achmad Bakrie . Bakrie studied electronics at the Bandung Institute of Technology . After completing his studies, he started working for his father's company, Bakrie & Brothers , in 1972 and later rose to the management of the company. Bakrie and his family control the energy company Energi Mega Persada . According to Forbes Magazine , he is one of the richest Indonesians.

In addition to his business activities, Bakrie is also active as a politician. From 1991 to 1995 he was President of the ASEAN Business Forum. From 1994 to 2004, Bakrie was President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Indonesia. He was Minister of Economy of Indonesia from 2004 to 2009 and Minister of Welfare since December 2005. He is also chairman of the Golkar party . Bakrie is running for the 2014 presidential election. He is married and has three children.

In 2006 the Sidoarjo mud volcano erupted . According to Greenpeace , a Bakrie family company PT Lapindo Brantas caused the outbreak.
