Baladna ( Arabic بلدنا, DMG Baladunā ) is a Qatari company active in the food industry. Today, the focus of activity is on the production of dairy products .

Company history

Baladna was originally primarily specialized in rearing sheep and goats. Entry into milk production was initially rejected because the Saudi Arabian company Almarai supplied Qatar with dairy products at low prices. In the course of the Qatar crisis since 2017 and the sea, land and air blockade by neighboring countries, food security in Qatar was seriously endangered, and many agricultural products had to be flown in from Turkey . In this situation Baladna went into milk production, as the competition from Almarai was no longer given. On July 11, 2017, about a month after diplomatic relations were broken off by neighboring Arab states, 3400 Holsteiners , flown in by Qatar Airways , were already available for milk production. At the beginning of 2018, several thousand cows were embarked from the United States . The aim is to produce over 500 tons of yoghurt and milk per day so that national requirements would be significantly exceeded. In 2019, the company plans to set up huge chicken coops that will produce 200 million eggs a year.

In early 2018, the company announced its IPO.

livestock farming

Animal husbandry in Qatar is a major challenge due to the sometimes very high temperatures. The company's 3840 hectare farm north of Qatar near al-Chaur is a state-of-the-art, largely automated facility. This has a modern milking machine and complex systems for temperature and humidity regulation.
