Baland mosque
The Baland Mosque ( Uzbek Baland masjid , 'High Mosque') is a mosque in the Uzbek city of Buxoro .
location
The mosque is located just outside the historical center of Buxoro , about 300 meters south of the Qo'sh Madrasa , in a green area lined with trees.
description
The mosque was probably built at the beginning of the 16th century. It is built on a stone base, to which stairs with several stone steps lead up. The designation "High Mosque" also refers to this elevated construction, not to a special rank. A domed gate leads to the green area in which the mosque is located.
The main building is a winter mosque , i.e. a closed roofed structure. The roof protrudes on two sides, is supported by thin wooden pillars and thus forms a vestibule designed as a corner ivan that serves as a summer mosque.
The Baland Mosque is particularly known for its rich interior with faience tiles and gold paintings. The interior has a coffered ceiling with wooden inlays.
