A summer mosque is a mosque or an area of a mosque that is or was used specifically in the warm summer months .

Summer mosques can be found, for example, in Uzbek architecture . Striking peculiarities of these are that they are characterized by at least one side open prayer rooms, mostly under ivans . Examples of summer mosques are found in various historical buildings of the UNESCO World Heritage counting old city of Bukhara and Khiva Ichan Qal'а . There are summer mosques in the Khan's mosque in the Konya Ark citadel , in the Pahlawan Mahmud memorial and in the Ak mosque in Khiva or in the Dschuma mosque in the Ark citadel in Bukhara . As a counterpart, facilities with a summer mosque often also have closed rooms, which are used in cold seasons and are then called winter mosques.
