Balders Hage is a former sports field in Gothenburg , Sweden . Since 2003, the square has been part of the Liseberg amusement park .

history

In 1887 Wilhelm Friberg and Walfrid Silow , who a short time later were involved in founding Örgryte IS , started an initiative to build an ice rink, which later became the basis of the Balders Hage sports field. It was inaugurated on New Year's Day 1888. However, this was closed again in 1898 due to financial difficulties. This was followed by a renovation in 1901. The IFK Gothenburg graduated in the years of its founding, among others, a few games here.

Until 1908, ÖIS, at that time Sweden’s most important soccer team, used Balders Hage as the venue for soccer matches. In 1908 the club built Valhalla idrottsplats , a stadium with 8,000 seats, for 40,000 kroner , and played its home games there on September 6th of that year.

Allegedly, on July 12, 1908, Balders Hage was the venue for the first international match of the Swedish national football team . In front of 3,000 spectators, Norway was defeated 11: 3. However, the game actually took place on a sports field in Tegelbruksängen, on the grounds of which the Gamla Ullevi was later to emerge.
