from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 5th Balkan Cup was a competition for national football teams from countries in the Balkan region . This time the games did not take place in summer, as before, but in December 1934 and January 1935 in the Greek capital Athens . In addition to the hosts, Bulgaria , Yugoslavia and Romania also took part in the tournament as in the previous year . Each team played once against each other in group mode. The decision about the title was pretty tight compared to previous years, also because a game ended in a draw for the first time in tournament history. After all, for the first time in the history of the competition, Yugoslavia came out on top. Defending champion Romania finished third. Host Greece won its first game in the Balkan Cup since the first edition. The top scorer were the Yugoslavs Aleksandar Tirnanić and Aleksandar Tomašević (three goals each).
