Ballboy is a British indie rock band from Edinburgh .

history

The band formed in Edinburgh in the mid-1990s. Founding members were Viv Strachan, Gordon McIntyre, Nick Reynolds and Alexis Beattie. Over the next few years, the band played numerous gigs in the Edinburgh area and also provided tracks for the indie compilation It's A Life Sentence , which was released in 1997 on the newly founded label SL Records . In 1999 Viv Strachan left the band and Gordon McIntyre, the group's songwriter, took over the vocal part. Katie Griffiths completed the line-up on keyboard and Gary Morgan replaced Alexis Beattie on drums. The band was signed by SL Records and released a number of EPs that were released in 2001 on the sampler Club Anthems .

Her debut album, A Guide for the Daylight Hours , came out in 2002 and reached number 8 on the British indie charts. In 2003 the acoustic melancholy The Sash My Father Wore and Other Stories followed , which was mostly recorded by Gordon McIntyre alone and is therefore actually a solo album. In 2004 Katie Griffiths was replaced on keyboard by Alexa Morrison. With this new line-up, the band recorded their third studio album, The Royal Theater , which received good reviews. Their last release was the download single I Died for Love and was from 2005. The band has only given live concerts occasionally since then.

In 2008, the group founded their own label, Pony Proof Records, and released their fifth studio album, I Worked on the Ships , in August of that year , which received good reviews. This was followed by the mandatory tour of the clubs.

In December 2013, the group, as they put it, woke up from their hibernation and released the mini-album Merry Christmas to the Drunks, Merry Christmas to the Lovers , which contains six new tracks and is only available as a download.
