Ballerina Girl is a Lionel Richie song produced in collaboration with James Anthony Carmichael . It appeared in November 1986 on the album Dancing on the Ceiling and was Richie's thirteenth and last top ten hit in the USA. Like its predecessor Love Will Conquer All, it was only moderately successful internationally .
The song tells of the love of the lyric self for a ballet dancer . In the corresponding music video, Richie can be seen at the piano in a ballet school while young ballet students dance.
