history

The beginning as a restaurant

In 1869, master brewer Samuel Gottlieb Naumann acquired a liquor license from the city of Dresden. At first he ran his restaurant on Kreuzgasse near the Altmarkt . In 1881 he founded the National Brewery SG Naumann & Sons and began building a new brewery at Königsbrücker Strasse 121. Ten years later, a brewery bar was also opened there to sell its own beer. Because of the many large linden trees that lined the adjacent beer garden, the restaurant was named "Lindengarten". At the turn of the century, a separate DC generator was installed for the brewery . This also supplied the "Lindengarten" with electricity - much earlier than comparable restaurants.

Rehabilitation and recovery

After a complete renovation, the "Lindengarten" developed into a popular dance and excursion venue. In particular, members of the military from the neighboring Albertstadt were regular guests. For entertainment there was a music pavilion, shooting galleries and a children's carousel in the large beer garden. The ballroom was used for concerts, theater performances and dance events. The then tenant Karl Naumann, great-grandson of the founder Samuel Gottlieb Naumann, now called the family business the Lindengarten Concert and Event House . It remained in private hands until Karl Naumann's death in 1986.

After World War II until 1989

After the Second World War , a new era began for the "Lindengarten". While the brewing business was stopped, the bar remained open. As an alternative venue for the bombed-out Dresden theaters in the city center, regular performances were held in the ballroom of the "Lindengarten" until 1961. In the 1960s it developed into a popular entertainment and dance venue that could seat up to 1000 visitors. For this purpose, a new dining room, a dance hall and a bar were added to the hall, so that for a single entry price under the slogan three halls - three chapels - three possibilities of triple entertainment were offered. The dance hall known as "Li-Ga" remained open until 1991 after the fall of the Wall .

Restoration in the 1990s and use today

After 1990, Johannes Naumann, the brother of the former tenant, sold the property with the listed "linden garden". In 1994 all buildings on the property with the exception of the historic ballroom were demolished before construction of the new Quality Hotel Plaza Dresden began in 1996. The hall was restored according to the historical model and integrated into the new hotel building. The Lindengarten ballroom now offers space for up to 600 people and is used for congresses and other events.
