Ballyhaunis

Ballyhaunis ( Irish : Béal Átha hAmhnais ) is a country town in Ireland . It is located in the east of County Mayo in the province of Connacht , at the intersection of the N60 and N83. In the 2016 census, the population of the place was determined to be 2366.

history

The Kiltullagh Hill is a limestone hill south-east of Ballyhaunis, on the Iron Age were made and early Christian finds. In 1348 the Augustinian Order of St. Mary's Abbey was founded. The city in which the River Clare rises developed in the vicinity .

Ballyhaunis is located at the intersection of the national roads N60 ( Castlebar - Roscommon ) and N83 ( Tuam –Ballyhaunis– ( Charlestown )). On October 1, 1861, the city received a railway connection on the main Dublin - Westport line .
