Balthasar Fiebus (Macco spelling: Feibus ; * 16th century in Aachen ; † November 14, 1665 ibid) was a German politician and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

Balthasar Fiebus, called the elder to distinguish himself from his grandson or grandnephew of the same name, came from a Catholic patrician family and was a brother or cousin of the multiple mayor of Aachen, Nikolaus Fiebus . By profession he was a master baker and member of the baker's guild, to whose Greven he was elected in 1645. In addition, he got involved in local politics and was appointed foreman in the Aachen city council and from 1640 to 1644 as Meier von Burtscheid . Eventually he was elected from the ranks of the guilds in 1639/40, 1641, 1644/45, 1646/47, 1647/48, 1650/51, 1656/57, 1658/59, 1660/61, 1662/63 and 1664 / 65 elected mayor eleven times, his term of office being out of turn in 1641, since he replaced him as mayor of the guilds after Dietrich Speckhewer joined the lay jury.

Balthasar Fiebus was married to Margarethe Hunten for the first time in 1619 and after her death in 1644 married the widow Maria Scha and finally the widow Susanne de Bernage in third marriage. His first marriage resulted in his daughter Anna (* 1624), who married the future mayor Mathias Maw . As a result, a decade-long family-internal position agreement was continued in the high phase of the Aachen brokering , in which among others his brother or cousin Nikolaus Fiebus with his brother-in-law Gerlach Maw as well as their sons Balthasar Fiebus the Younger with Mathias Maw annually in the office of citizen Mayor took turns over the years. It was similar with the appointment of the Meier office in Burtscheid, where Balthasar the elder took over with his brother / cousin Nikolaus Fiebus and with father and son Maw.
