Balthasar Siegel (captain)

Balthasar Siegel (buried May 6, 1663 in Neudek ) was the clerk and captain of the Czernin rule of Neudek

Life

Nothing is known about Siegel's origin. It could not be established whether there was a relationship to the Siegel smelting clan. In 1618 he is recorded in Neudek, where he was employed as a lordly clerk in 1622. Accordingly, he was initially in the service of the Barons Colonna von Fels and later the Count Czernin von Chuderitz . He converted to Catholicism during the Counter Reformation . After Georg Zettel's death in 1643, he was appointed the new lordly captain. He remained in this position until he was succeeded in 1662 by the clerk at the time, Johann Schopf. His two sons held high offices in neighboring Platten . His eldest son was married to the daughter of the mountain master von Platten, Johann Löbel .

Balthasar Siegel married Anna Maria around 1623 (buried February 2, 1661 in Neudek). The marriage had at least nine children, including:

  • Johann Georg (baptized 14 December 1626 in Neudek; buried 16 February 1658 in plates), since 1654 imperial forester, foresters and Zehenteinnehmer; ∞ around 1650 Rosina Löbel
  • Hans Adam (baptized April 12, 1638 in Neudek; buried January 16, 1679 in Platten), since 1658 imperial forest forester, mountain clerk and organist; ∞ around 1661 Anna Maria

Honors

The bell, cast in 1656 by order of Count Humprecht Johann Czernin , which was hung in the tower of the former Neudek Castle , bears Balthasar Siegel's name.
