Baltica-net was a virtual specialist library for scientific literature on the languages, literatures and cultures of the Baltic countries . As a specialist portal for Baltic research, it offers scientifically relevant information on Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania . Since May 2008, the baltica-net project has been an integral part of vifanord (virtual specialist library for Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea region). This is also a DFG- funded project, in which the university libraries of Göttingen , Greifswald (lead) and Kiel are involved.

history

Baltica-net was set up by the Greifswald University Library as part of a DFG- funded project between December 2004 and March 2006 . The aim of the project was to make the search for scientifically relevant information about the Baltic States much easier. For this purpose, the virtual specialist library Kulturkreis Baltische Länder was set up, in which, in cooperation with scientific institutions and libraries, conventional forms of media and electronic resources are identified, made accessible and made available for scientific research using a search interface.

The baltica-net virtual library contains various modules that can be used to search under one interface:

  1. Database of internet sources, selected according to scientifically relevant criteria and indexed in terms of content
  2. Library catalogs with literature on the Baltic States
  3. Databases with relevant journal articles.

All components can be searched using the metasearch .

Baltica-net represents the consistent virtual expansion of the special collection areas "Baltic countries" at the University Library Greifswald and "Estonian Language and Literature" at the State and University Library Göttingen .

Since April 2006, the Greifswald University Library has been responsible for maintaining baltica-net and providing new content on an ongoing basis in collaboration with the cooperation partners.

Baltica-net is a member of vascoda .
