vifanord
The vifanord (short for Virtual Specialized Library Northern Europe and Baltic Sea Region ) is a virtual library that contains information and facts on literature and research results about the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) and the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) - and thus across the entire north and north-east of Europe - bundles in one place.
The vifanord offers research options via library catalogs, specialist databases and article references, which also include scientifically relevant sources and documents from the Internet. In particular, sources from the fields of political science, sociology, linguistics and literary studies, information and library science, history, anthropogeography and folklore are made researchable and accessible.
This specialist portal is a joint development of the three German university libraries with national special collection areas for this room:
- University Library Greifswald (Baltic countries, Baltic Sea region),
- University Library Kiel (Scandinavia),
- Lower Saxony State and University Library Göttingen (Finland & Estonian Philology and Folklore).
On November 1, 2006, the construction of this DFG- funded project began. The virtual specialist library baltica-net for the cultural area of the Baltic countries, which has been offered since 2005, has been integrated as a partial offer into vifanord and expanded in terms of content. The offer has been available on the Internet since May 6, 2008.
