Manfred Huss

Manfred Huss (born 1956 in Vienna ) is an Austrian conductor and pianist .

biography

Manfred Huss studied in Vienna with Hans Swarowsky and Alexander Jenner . Early on, he became known throughout Europe as a pianist with concerts and recordings. In 1984 he founded the Haydn Sinfonietta Vienna (on historical instruments), which he still directs today. A special focus of his work lies in the examination of the correct playing of historical pianos . Today he is also known to a wider audience as a studio guest on ORF or BBC “RADIO 3”.

His activity as a conductor took him to London (Barbican Center / Wigmore Hall), Paris (Chatelet), Brussels (Opéra de la Monnaie), Linz (Brucknerfest), Frankfurt (Alte Oper), Salzburg, Ascona, Evian, Florence. He has also conducted the City of London Sinfonia, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Mexican Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, the South Silesian Philharmonic, the Macedionian Philharmonic, and the Tallis and Kodály Choirs.

His book “Guarding the Shape”, which has been translated into several languages, achieved worldwide recognition in which he published the written estate of Hans Swarowsky . “I don't know anything more important what an artist would have said or could say about questions of interpretation in music!” Said Christoph von Dohnányi . He also wrote the first comprehensive, German-language biography of Joseph Haydn based on new research results ("J. Haydn - Life and Work").
