Balzac is a village in the southern Canadian province of Alberta . It is located 15 miles north of Calgary and 12 miles south of Airdrie . The CrossIron Mills shopping center is located immediately west of Balzac.
history
The village developed around the station of the Canadian Pacific Railway established in 1910 . This was named by William Cornelius Van Horne , the company's president, after his favorite author Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) .
