Bamako initiative

The Bamako Initiative was one in the capital in 1987 Bamako of the West African country Mali held, WHO conference, the health policy in Africa of the south Sahara sustainable change.

Ways out of the looming financial crisis of public health facilities in African countries were sought. The result was a program that aims to increase the involvement of the population in the construction and maintenance of health facilities. It consists of the decision to revitalize health facilities using a co-financing model. This is based on the economic responsibility of the local population, be it through simple insurance systems or through tariffing treatments and medication.

The Bamako initiative was subsequently implemented in Asia and Latin America .
