Bamburgh is a town in Northumberland in England , about 32 kilometers south of Berwick-upon-Tweed , on the North Sea coast. The place has about 500 inhabitants. It is overlooked by Bamburgh Castle , which was the seat of the Northumbrian kings since the 6th century (see list of rulers of Bamburgh ).
The St. Aidans Church in Bamburgh still bears witness to the missionary work of St. Aidan , who founded the monastery of the same name in 635 on the neighboring island of Lindisfarne .
The town's extensive sandy beach has been designated as a particularly clean bathing beach since 2005. Between the castle and the open sea there are wide strips of dunes that are of particular scientific interest.

- Grace Darling (1815–1842) rescued several sailors after an accident on a storm night on the Farne Islands .
Other people associated with the location
- William George Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong (1810–1900) had Bamburgh Castle restored. The castle is owned by his descendants.
