Bamburi is located in Mombasa County in Kenya , about 10 kilometers northeast of Mombasa . Bamburi is a tourist area with numerous hotel complexes along the coast of the Indian Ocean .
Haller Park
In 1971, the Swiss René Haller was commissioned to transform the disused part of the cement and quarry complex into the Haller Park nature reserve through reforestation . The 11 km² area is home to numerous wild animals and until 2007 was home to the famous attraction Owen and Mzee - an unusual friendship between a hippopotamus and a 130-year-old giant tortoise .
