Count Dietrich V. von Limburg-Broich (* 1387 at House Vitinghof ; † January 16, 1444 ) was a German nobleman. By descent and inheritance Count von Limburg and Herr zu Broich .

ancestry

Count Dietrich von Limburg-Broich was born in 1387 as the second-born son of Count Dietrich IV of Limburg (* around 1330; † July 8, 1400) and his wife Lukardis von Broich († 1412).

Life

At the end of 1396, Duke Wilhelm II von Berg signed a contract with Count Dietrich V of Limburg, his brother Wilhelm I and his father Dietrich IV, which obliged them to commit the Duke in the upcoming war with Count Dietrich II of the Stand by Mark . The Duke also made use of his right to open the Broich and Limburg castles . In the battle of Kleverhamm that followed on June 7th, 1397, the father was defeated and taken prisoner, whereupon he had to pay a high ransom and swear a primal feud . After his father's death in 1400, he and his brother Wilhelm I inherited the County of Limburg , the Broich estate and the Vitinghof family . On November 16, 1401 they were both enfeoffed by Duke Wilhelm II von Berg with Limburg and Broich.

On December 4, 1412 there was an inheritance division between the brothers, whereby Wilhelm was to rule the county of Limburg alone from now on, his wife Mechthild received his part of the rule Broich as Wittum .

On February 21, 1430, Dietrich was appointed bailiff of the Mülheim parish by Duke Adolf II of Kleve-Mark .

After Dietrich's sister-in-law Metza died in 1437, brother Wilhelm gave up Broich entirely in favor of Dietrich. In the same year Dietrich got together with his son Dietrich VI. feud with Duke Adolf I von Jülich and Berg , 1438 with Cologne Archbishop Dietrich II von Moers and 1439 with Duke Adolf II from Kleve , each time Broich Castle was attacked and besieged. Since Dietrich finally imprisoned followers of his Klevian liege lord, a rift broke out between them. On June 9, 1439, Duke Adolf von Kleve-Mark declared Dietrich's fiefdom to have been forfeited and gave it to his son Heinrich on the condition that his father would no longer be allowed into the castle. Dietrich died on January 16, 1444.
