Johann von Limburg-Broich († July 26, 1511 ) was a German nobleman. By descent and inheritance Count von Limburg and Herr zu Broich .

ancestry

Count Johann von Limburg-Broich was born as the only son of Count Wilhelm II of Limburg-Broich (* around 1425, † 14 September 1473) and his wife Jutta von Runkel.

Life

After the death of his father Wilhelm II in the late summer of 1473, Johann became heir of the Broich estate and part of the Limburg County condominium . His uncle Count Heinrich von Limburg-Broich took over the guardianship for him and his sisters Maria and Irmgard. Heinrich acted as regent for Johann in Limburg until 1484. In 1478 the uncle was enfeoffed by Duke Wilhelm von Jülich-Berg as guardian of the children with Broich and the share in Limburg. Six years later, Johann was enfeoffed by the Duke of Berg on August 21, 1484.

After the death of his uncle Heinrich von Limburg-Broich in 1486, Johann inherited the Bürgel house and another part of Limburg.

On June 20, 1492 Johann married Elisabeth, daughter of Friedrich von Neuenahr-Alpen and Eva von Linnep. Since the marriage remained childless, however, he adopted the orphan Irmgard von Sayn (* 1482; † 27 August 1551), daughter of his sister Countess Maria (* around 1465; † 1487) and Count Sebastian von Sayn-Wittgenstein (* around 1464; † 1498). On November 14, 1505, Johann gave his adopted daughter Wirich V. von Daun-Falkenstein to wife and officially transferred Limburg Castle to him . This wedding probably came about through negotiations with Wirich's uncle Philipp II von Daun .

On January 26, 1510, he renounced Haus Bürgel in favor of Wirich. Johann died on July 26th 1511 and was buried in the Petrikirche in Mülheim .
