Dietrich IV of Limburg (* around 1330; † July 8, 1400 ) was a German nobleman, Count von Limburg and Lord of Broich, who ruled by descent and inheritance . Through his marriage to Lukardis von Broich, the Count Limburg-Broich developed.

Life

Dietrich IV was born around 1330 as the son of Count Eberhard II of Limburg and his wife Jutta von Sayn .

On November 6, 1348 he, his grandfather Count Dietrich III. von Limburg with son Cracht, Count Johann von Limburg-Styrum with son Dietrich III. and Burkhard V. von Broich and his son Dietrich V. signed an eternal pact with Count Gerhard von Berg against all current and future enemies.

After the death of his grandfather Dietrich III. in 1364 Dietrich inherited the county of Limburg and in 1370 acquired the Vittinghoff house .

On July 3, 1371 he married Lukardis von Broich. A year later, after the death of his father-in-law Dietrich V. von Broich , protracted inheritance disputes arose between him and his brother-in-law Friedrich II von Wevelinghoven because of the Broich rule , which could only be resolved years later.

Soon there was a feud between him and Count Wilhelm II. Von Berg , because Dietrich had not enforced the promise of the opening rights for Broich Castle given by his father-in-law in 1369 . Count Wilhelm finally moved in front of Broich and showed who was the stronger. On July 21, 1376, Dietrich had to agree that Limburg and Broich would become Bergische Offenhäuser, Broich himself a Bergisches fiefdom . On February 5, 1377, the loan letter was finally issued, and on May 6, Dietrich's reverse took place.

In 1382, Duke Wilhelm issued the arbitration award for the Broich rule, whereby the inheritance was divided. The holdings on the left bank of the Rhine fell to Herr von Wevelinghoven and those on the right bank of the Rhine went to Dietrich.

End of the year 1396 closed Herzog Wilhelm II. Von Berg with Dietrich IV. Of Limburg and his sons William I and Dietrich V. a contract that obliged it to Duke in the upcoming feud with Count Dietrich II. Von der Mark assist . The Duke also made use of his right to open the Broich and Limburg castles . At the following Battle of Kleverhamm on June 7, 1397, Dietrich IV was defeated and taken prisoner, whereupon he had to pay a large ransom and swear a primal feud . Thereupon, on June 30, 1397, he left the rule of Broich to his son Wilhelm I. Dietrich died on July 8, 1400.
