Otto R. Redlich

Otto Reinhard Redlich (born February 15, 1864 in Haina ; † December 9, 1939 in Düsseldorf ) was a German historian and archivist . From 1921 to 1929 he was head of the Prussian State Archives in Düsseldorf, today's State Archives of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland Department .

Life

Honestly studied history, historical auxiliary sciences , German studies and philosophy in Tübingen, Berlin and Leipzig. He received his doctorate in 1887 at the University of Leipzig under Wilhelm Maurenbrecher with a thesis entitled: The Reichstag of Nuremberg 1522–1523 and then worked as an employee at the edition of the German Reichstag files. From 1889 to 1891 he worked at the Marburg State Archives , and in 1891 he moved to the Düsseldorf State Archives . In 1906 he was appointed Archives Councilor, in 1916 as Secret Archives Councilor, and in 1921 as Archives Director. In this position, he headed the State Archives in Düsseldorf until he retired in 1929.

After his retirement he got involved in setting up the Rhineland archives advice center (until 1933).
