House Vittinghoff is an Outbound Motte at the Vittinghoffstraße in Essen district of the city forest . It is the ancestral seat of the noble family Vietinghoff , which in its Westphalian line carried the title of Baron von Vittinghoff called Schell zu Schellenberg , but in the Baltic line called Baron von Vietinghoff-Scheel .

Two Divided raises the probable outer ward of the moth in the eastern part of about 50 by 32 meters surface and the alleged nuclear Motte in the western part of 28 by 26 meters is. Located in a spring recess, it was most likely a Wasserburg .
history
Mentioned in 1230 are the brothers Heinricus, Theodericus and Winimarus de Vitighoven (original of the document in the Münster State Archives ) as ministerials of the Bishop of Münster. Dietrich von Altena-Isenberg had the Neue Isenburg built around 400 meters further south around 1240 . The Ministeriale Heinrich von Vittinghoff was appointed castellan by the Archbishop of Cologne in 1274 , but he stayed in his castle. It was not until 1452 that Johann van den Vitinchaven called Schele, together with his brother-in-law Dietrich von Leithen, acquired the house on the mountain , which later became Schellenberg Castle , and in 1454 sold the Motte together with several farms to the Rellinghausen chapter , which was under the control of the Essen monastery .
The complex was entered on October 2, 1997 as No. 23 in the list of ground monuments of the city of Essen.
