Ban Mueang Phruek

Ban Mueang Phruek (also Ban Muang Phruk, Thai : บ้านเมือง พ รึ ก ) is an archaeological site in the district ( Amphoe ) Kumphawapi of the province of Udon Thani in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Location and excavation history

Ban Mueang Phruek is located on the east bank of Lake Kumphawapi in northeast Thailand. The place was identified as a possible settlement site by members of the Ban Chiang culture during a prospecting by Charles Higham and T. Kijngam in 1980 and excavated during a smaller campaign.

Finds

The place was since around 500 BC. Colonized in BC and shows, together with other places in Isan ( Ban Chiang Hian ), a preference for clay-rich soils during the late prehistoric phase. Ban Mueang Phruek was not fortified.
