Banca Cattolica del Veneto is a former Italian private bank based in Vicenza .

The bank was founded in 1892 under the name Banca Cattolica Vicentina and initially operated in the Diocese of Vicenza. In the 1920s it developed into a successful regional bank and was not only able to weather the crisis of 1929, but also helped other banks to overcome financial difficulties.

The number of branches rose from 111 in 1940 to 152 by 1965. The bank expanded into Veneto , Friuli-Venezia Giulia , Trentino-South Tyrol , Emilia , Rome and Milan . In 1982 it merged with Banco Ambrosiano under the name Nuovo Banco Ambrosiano .
