Banca per l'Africa Orientale

The Banca per l'Africa Orientale (BAO, Italian for: Bank for East Africa ) was an early initiative to establish a modern banking system in the Italian colonies of Colonia Eritrea and Italian Somaliland in the Horn of Africa .

In 1917, the Banca Italiana di Sconto promoted the establishment of the BAO as a stock exchange company in Rome with headquarters in Massaua and branches in Mogadishu . The BAO operations began in 1918 and was liquidated as early as 1923. Presumably after own problems and the liquidation of the Banca Italiana di Sconto.
