Paul Crüger (also: Krüger ; * around 1550 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † April 27, 1593 in Elbing ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Crüger was the son of the Löbenicht Schöppenmeister Simon Crüger (* October 28, 1524 - January 21, 1587) and his first wife Elisabeth, daughter of the Löbenicht mayor Paul Mangravius. His grandfather Benedikt had already been a councilor in Löbenicht and the family belonged to the patriciate of the city. The family had sufficient financial resources to give Paul a solid education. After he had finished his education at the high school in Strasbourg , he went to the University of Frankfurt (Oder) in the winter semester of 1567 to study law.

He continued this in 1573 at the University of Königsberg . Since at that time no doctorates in the higher faculties were undertaken at the university in his hometown, he went back to Frankfurt, where he received his doctorate in law in 1576 under the dean's office of Bartholomäus Radtman . Returned to his hometown, he became Duke Prussian Councilor on September 14, 1577, Court Judge in 1582 and First Professor of Law at the University of Königsberg in 1586 .

The dissertation de actionibus is known from his pen . He had also participated in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg University. He was rector of the Alma Mater in the winter semester of 1586/87 and in the summer semesters of 1588 and 1592 . In 1587 Krüger donated a sum of 500 thalers to build a vault for the burial of the bodies of the Königsberg professors. However , he was not buried in the professors' vault, which became famous as the burial place of Immanuel Kant . His body was buried in Elbing, where he died on a return trip from Warsaw.
