Bang Kwang

Bang Kwang (officially Bang Kwang Central Prison , Thai : เรือนจำ กลาง บาง ขวาง , RTGS : Rueancham Klang Bang Khwang) is a maximum security detention center for men in Nonthaburi Province, north-northeast of Bangkok , the capital of Thailand .

Bangkwang is also known as "Bangkok Hilton" or "Big Tiger". It is considered to be one of the most uncomfortable prisons in the world. In particular, drug dealers and owners are taken into custody here. Full coverage are Webcams mounted to document the daily routine of about 6,000 inmates, including about 1,000 death row prisoners. Cameras are pointed 24 hours a day at the 65 inmates currently on death row . It is planned to broadcast the daily routine and the last moments in the life of a prisoner live to the whole world via webcam.

Prisoners repeatedly die in prison for unexplained causes. The embassies of the EU countries ensure the supply of vitamins and supplementary food for their convicted nationals so that they can stay alive. The prison is on Amnesty International's watch list .
