Banjul Challenge
The Banjul Challenge is an annual charity event that runs across Europe and Africa . It was first started as the Plymouth-Dakar Challenge in December 2002 , renamed the Plymouth-Banjul Challenge in 2005 and is now known under its current name, the Banjul Challenge .
General
The challenge was developed by Julian Nowill in 2001. It roughly follows the route of the earlier Dakar Rally or today the Africa Eco Race and crosses just as many countries. The route takes 22 days from Plymouth on the British south coast through France and Spain to Gibraltar . Then along the northwest coast of Africa through Morocco , Western Sahara and Mauritania . After crossing Senegal further south, on to Banjul , the capital of Gambia .

- Entrants must drive a car worth approximately £ 100 .
- The cost of preparing the vehicle must not exceed £ 15.
- After the start, each team, consisting of the driver and his co-driver, is on its own.
- When they arrive in Banjul, the cars are donated or auctioned for charity.
- According to the organizers, the obligation for left-hand drive vehicles was lifted in 2016.
