The Bank of Nauru ( BON ; Bank of Nauru ) is the public central bank of the Republic of Nauru . It belongs to the government. It was founded in 1976 when it took over the Nauruan banking operations from the Bank of New South Wales . The bank is based in the Civic Center in Orro / Aiwo , and the chairman of the banking company is Amos Cook .

The bank has been insolvent and illiquid for years, which is one of the many consequences of the island nation's impoverishment. No transactions are made as they have no funds. The only other banking institution is at Nauru International Airport , where the Central Pacific Bank has a branch.
