Banyan Vines

Banyan VINES ( V irtual I ntegrated Ne Twork S ervice ) is a network operating system , which with proprietary network protocols operates by the Xerox Network System (XNS) are derived.

VINES implements an architecture based on the client-server model . It came out in 1984 and enjoyed some distribution until the mid- 1990s .

A directory service - StreetTalk - was introduced with VINES as a unique selling point . It can legitimately be called the forerunner of modern directory services.
