Weltersbach Baptist Cemetery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baptist Cemetery Weltersbach is located in the Leichlingen district of Weltersbach on the site of the Evangelical Free Church Diakoniewerk Pilgerheim Weltersbach . It is located in the entrance area of the senior citizens' village operated by the Diakoniewerk, in which around 500 residents live.

history

The approval for the construction of the Baptist burial site in Weltersbach was granted on March 10, 1930 by the regional council in Düsseldorf . The conditions associated with this permit included the fencing of the cemetery complex and the lockability of the cemetery gate. In addition, the cemetery boundary "from the new stream bed of the Weltersbach " should remain at least 35 meters away. When the first burial took place in the Baptist cemetery can no longer be determined from the available documents. However, it is likely that it took place in 1930.

115 graves were initially planned in the cemetery. In 1955, the owner of the cemetery submitted an application to the Leichlingen city administration for an extension of the site. This request was granted on September 13, 1956. Another application for expansion was made in 1972 and also approved by the authorities.

Sponsorship and funeral regulations

The Baptist cemetery Weltersbach is sponsored by the Evangelical Free Church Diakoniewerk Pilgerheim Weltersbach . The Diakoniewerk was founded in 1926 by the parishes of the Evangelical Free Churches Regional Associations of Rhineland and Westphalia. The Welter Bacher cemetery is a so-called Home Cemetery . It is only used as a burial place for people who previously lived in the senior citizens' village and who have concluded a funeral contract with the porter. The denomination does not play a role. However, the majority of those buried in the home cemetery come from the free church environment. There are only burials in the ground . A special permit is available for the four urn graves in the cemetery. With a few exceptions, all gravestones have a uniform character.

Special memorials

In the Weltersbacher Friedhof there is a special memorial that was erected for the deaconesses of the Baptist sister house Martha who were killed in a bomb attack on Berlin in 1943 . There are also scattered graves of people who have played a role in the recent history of German Baptists , including the grave of Elisabeth Flügge , who died in March 2010. Elisabeth Flügge was for many years chairwoman of the German Evangelical Free Church Women's Service and from 1962 to 1967 she was president of the women's work of the European Baptist Federation as well as a board member of the women's work of the Baptist World Federation .
