Barbara is the provisional name of a planned underground station on line 4 of the Paris Métro . It will be located in Montrouge and Bagneux below Avenue de Stalingrad. The main entrance should be on Avenue de Verdun and Avenue Marx-Dormoy. A side entrance is to be built on Avenue de Stalingrad and Avenue du Colonel-Fabien. Nearby is the Cimetière parisien de Bagneux .
The station is scheduled to open in 2021. It is part of the extension of three stations from Porte d'Orléans to Bagneux. The start of the project for the 2.7 km long route was in January 2001, the public display from January to March 2004. First construction work began at the end of 2005 / beginning of 2006. The first section to Mairie de Montrouge was commissioned on March 23, 2013 instead of. The project is financed by the state, the region, the municipalities and the RATP. The construction work for the last 1.9 km long section to Bagneux began in 2014 and should be completed by 2021 after several construction delays.
The provisional name was Verdun-Sud . A previously unseen process was used to finally find the name. A public online voting was launched, giving everyone the opportunity to vote for a favorite within a month. More than 30,000 people took part in the vote. The criteria for the name were that the names should relate to the location and should not be too long. On June 19, 2018, Ile-de-France Mobilités announced that the name Barbara had been chosen. The choice of a woman's name was very much welcomed, as only seven of the 303 stations on the Paris Métro have a woman's name. In addition to Barbara , there were also Fort de Montrouge and Coluche to choose from. In the same vote, a search was also made for the neighboring station, which is to be completed in the same construction phase. Here the decision fell on Lucie Aubrac , also a woman.
