Barbara Hölscher

Barbara Hölscher (* 1964 ) is a German sociologist .

Hölscher studied sociology at Bielefeld University from 1984 to 1990 and then worked for private companies in market research until 1993 .

In 1993, she returned as a Research Associate returned to the University of Bielefeld, where in 1996 his doctorate was and (as a 2003 research assistant for "sociology") habilitation . In the meantime she was visiting professor at the State University of St. Petersburg in Russia in 1996 and from 2003 to 2004 she represented the professorship for quantitative methods of empirical social research at Bielefeld University. Since 2005, Hölscher has been Professor of Sociology and Director of the Institute for Social Sciences at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

Her main areas of work are: theories of social inequality; Social structure analysis and lifestyle research ; General sociology, especially cultural sociology ; Media sociology ; Economic and organizational sociology ; Professional sociology ; Science and education research; Family and youth sociology ; Quantitative and qualitative methods of empirical social research.
