Barbara Simons

Barbara Simons (born June 16, 1929 in Wolfenbüttel ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Barbara Simons completed a teacher training course in 1948 and took her first state examination at the Hanover University of Education . Then she worked as a teacher. From 1973 to 1977 she completed a diploma course in adult education . From 1978 to 1984 Simons was the head of the educational advice center at the Volkshochschule Hannover .

She has been a member of the SPD since 1969. From 1982 she was a member of the board of the SPD in Lower Saxony . Simons is a member of the education and science trade union and the workers' welfare organization .

Barbara Simons was a member of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1994 . From 1984 to 1989 she was Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on External Economic Relations and from 1989 to 1994 Deputy Chairwoman of the Members of the European Parliament at the Joint Assembly of the Agreement between the States of Africa. She was the South African spokeswoman for the Socialist Group and President of the Intergroup “Peace for the Sahrawi People”. She is an honorary member of the European Parliament.
