The Barkley-Grow T8P-1 was a twin-engine transport aircraft produced by the American manufacturer Barkley-Grow from Detroit . The few models produced before World War II were mainly used in Canada as bush planes.
history
In 1937 the aircraft designer Archibald Barkley founded the Barkley-Grow Aircraft together with Harold Grow in order to build a small civil aircraft that he designed himself.
The Barkley-Grow T8P-1 was designed as a low-wing aircraft and constructed in all-metal construction. It had a double, and in some examples even a triple vertical fin. The chassis, which could only be partially retracted, was no longer up-to-date. Two Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior radial engines served as drive . Two pilots and up to six passengers could be accommodated in the aircraft.
Like the competing models Lockheed Model 12 Electra Junior and Beech 18 , the T8P-1 met the requirements set by the Bureau of Air Commerce in 1935. She made her first flight in April 1937, too late to receive the hoped-for government support.
After only eleven aircraft could be sold, the two company founders gave up and sold the company to Avco (later Vultee Aircraft ).
use
The sales figures in the USA were disappointing. Most of the eleven built copies were sold to Canada, as the rigid chassis was suitable for attaching floats and runners.
To date, two aircraft have survived, one in the Aero Space Museum in Calgary and the other in the Alberta Aviation Museum.
