The Barnum Peak is a 2,940 m high mountain peaks in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It rises at the eastern end of a striking and snow-covered mountain ridge at the head of the Liv glacier immediately south of the confluence of the LaVergne glacier .
The American polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd discovered the mountain in November 1929 during his flight to the geographic South Pole as part of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1928–1930). Byrd named him after the American newspaper publisher Jerome DeWitt Barnum Sr. (1889-1965), a sponsor of his research trip .
