Barocius is an impact crater south of the lunar front , southeast of Maurolycus crater, and southwest of Nicolai . The crater is heavily eroded, the interior largely flat. The northwest crater rim is of the large craters Barocius B superimposed.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian mathematician Franciscus Barocius .
